Chris O’Neill and Princess Madeleine have officially postponed their move to early 2024, but royal experts still doubt that the family will actually move back to Sweden. The reason is Chris O’Neill’s attitude.

With her decision but not moving back to Sweden as planned in August this year, Princess Madeleine, 41, and Chris O’Neill, 49, caused many disappointed minds in Sweden. Although the palace insisted that the family simply didn’t have enough time to move and therefore won’t finally leave Florida until 2024, it was quickly rumored that O’Neill was responsible for the decision. After all, the businessman has never had much interest in being in the royal spotlight.

Does Chris O’Neill resist court life?

Assumptions that the Royal expert Herman Lindqvist now confirms. “It seems that Chris doesn’t feel ready to move to Sweden permanently. He doesn’t like court life and he can’t lead a happy parallel life in little Stockholm,” Lindqvist told the Swedish newspaper Svensk Damtidning.

The plan was for the family of five to move into Madeleine’s former luxury apartment in the Royal Stables of Stockholm – a renovated seven-room apartment in the upscale district of Östermalm, which was renovated between 2018 and 2019 for a whopping 6.8 million crowns (around 912,511 euros). Twice as much as the renovation was originally supposed to cost. A real dream apartment that many people would wish for.

“A topic that is hotly debated between the spouses”

However, Herman Lindqvist believes that the apartment could also be the reason why Chris and Madeleine do not want to move. After all, the couple is used to living in Florida with their three children in a 600 square meter villa with its own garden and pool. “It’s probably an issue that is hotly debated between the spouses,” Lindqvist believes.

One reason why there has even been speculation that Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill will move into Villa Loviseberg. A rumor that was quickly denied. “No, that’s not true. It was never an issue,” Staffan Larsson, head of the Ståthållarämbetet (the office of the governor of the Royal Castles), told Hänt magazine about the speculation.
