Chris O’Neill never sought the attention that comes with being a member of a royal family. How much he rejects media pressure and the public becomes clear again in an interview with the Swedish author Pascal Engman.
It is the dream of many people in their lives to meet a royal at least once. The Swedish author and journalist Pascal Engman, 38, can claim that he has already been able to meet all members of his local royal family. One person particularly impressed him: Chris O’Neill, 50. The man who never wanted to be part of the monarchy. In an interview with “Svensk Damtidning”, Engman reports on an encounter that goes deep into the emotional world of Princess Madeleine’s, 42, husband shows up.
Author reveals: ‘He screamed’
As Engman explains, he also wrote about the royal family during his time as a journalist. A day before the wedding of Princess Madeleine and the British-American entrepreneur in 2013, he tried to get a last-minute interview with them and stopped in front of the royal stables.

“He yelled, ‘I can see you, but I don’t want to talk to you.’ (…) He shouted that in front of the royal stables,” says the successful crime writer, describing the entrepreneur’s behavior. The then 30-year-old and her fiancé spent the last evening before their wedding in a pub and were said to be on their way home. Clearly Chris O’Neill wanted to enjoy the calm before the storm before his usual life changed forever.
Chris O’Neill: ‘I wasn’t born into a royal family’
The 50-year-old’s attitude towards his public life has not changed to this day. The father of Princess Leonore, 10, Prince Nicolas, 9, and Princess Adrienne, 6, enjoyed the years in which he had a protected atmosphere in his adopted home of Florida with Madeleine and the children. But when they moved to Stockholm in the summer of 2024, the family gave up this privilege again.
“I wasn’t born into a royal family. I’m Christopher O’Neill, my father was Paul O’Neill. He was a family man who had his own identity, worked hard and made it,” Madeleine told Husband told “King Magazine” in 2018 his decision not to wear the title of prince. To this day, Chris O’Neill rarely attends public events and remains focused on his company, Belgravia Advisors.
