Chris O’Neill grew up in London with two of his five half-sisters. His sisters on his mother’s side rarely appear in public. However, Countess Natascha von Abensperg and Traun and Tatjana d’Abo are welcome guests at the Salzburg Festival – with their brother.
Chris O’Neill, 50, is always in the spotlight of the Swedish press because of his marriage to Princess Madeleine, 42, eleven years ago. The family’s return to Sweden has made headlines, especially in recent months. Madeleine’s husband has always stressed that he tries to avoid life and attention as a royal. But the connection to the royal family brings with it a certain media presence.
His half-sisters, Countess Natascha von Abensperg und Traun, 56, and Tatjana d’Abo, 58, also move in respected circles – in Sweden, Austria, England and Germany. In contrast to their brother, however, Natascha and Tatjana have managed to live away from the media hype. Eva Maria O’Neill’s two daughters rarely appear in public. At the Salzburg Festival, that was the case again.
Chris O’Neill & sisters: They support their mother Eva Maria O’Neill in Salzburg
Both Natascha and Tatjana and Christopher came to Salzburg in August 2024 to support their mother Eva Maria O’Neill. The Austrian-born woman hosted the “Amadeus Weekend” at the Salzburg Festival. The annual event is a fundraising weekend to which 100 high-ranking guests are invited to enjoy private concerts as well as art, music and theater. In 2003, King Charles, 75, was already a guest at the “Amadeus Weekend” – Princess Madeleine has also done the honors in the past. In 2024, Chris O’Neill joined his mother without his wife.

Although Tatjana and Natascha mostly avoid the spotlight in their lives, they always make an exception in Salzburg. A photo shows the two women at their mother’s side. Countess Natascha von Abensperg and Traun looks proudly at her mother, who attracted everyone’s attention in a red Carmen dress. Eva’s eldest daughter Tatjana chose an elegant pink dress with long sleeves and combined it with an impressive pearl necklace and matching drop earrings.
Two of his half-sisters were born in Germany
Madeleine’s husband has always considered his two sisters to be “full-time sisters” because he grew up with them in London. Chris is from his mother’s third marriage to Paul Cesario O’Neill, †78. Eva Maria was previously married to the German businessman Wolfgang Schoeller. The marriage produced a daughter, Tatjana. Her sister, Natascha, was born from her mother’s second marriage to the businessman Hermann Loeb. Christopher O’Neill was born in London. His father brought three daughters from previous relationships into the marriage.
“My father’s three daughters stayed with their mother in the USA, while my mother’s two previous daughters moved with her from Germany to London,” revealed Chris O’Neill in an interview with “King Magazine”. Natascha has been married to Count Ernst von Abensperg and Traun since 1995 and has been part of the Austrian nobility ever since. Natascha and Ernst are the parents of Milana, 28, Chiara, Moritz and Louis. Tatjana married the English aristocrat Henry d’Abo. The couple have three children together: Maria, 33, Celina, 28, and Jasper, 23.
The 50-year-old has always described his relationship with his sisters as close. So it’s no wonder that they are also involved in the lives of Madeleine and Chris’ children. Chris O’Neill’s half-sisters have both taken on the role of godparents for one of his children. Countess Natascha is the godmother of Prince Nicolas, 9. Tatjana d’Abo is one of six godparents of Princess Leonore, 10. She is also a godmother to her husband.
