Chris Pine could dive into the world of "Dungeons and Dragons" in the future. Talks about the main cast are said to be ongoing.

Wars, dragons, monsters – and in the middle of it all, Chris Pine (40, "Star Trek")? This scenario seems possible. Because as US sites now unanimously report, the actor should be in discussion for the lead role in the new "Dungeons and Dragons" flick. Nothing is known about the plot of the film yet.

"Game Night" directors at work

The project has been planned for years. As "Variety" writes, the new film adaptation of the pen & paper role-playing game was originally tackled by Warner Bros., probably with Ansel Elgort (26, "The Distelfink") in the lead role and Rob Letterman (50, " Gulliver's Travels ") as a director.

After a dispute over the property rights, Paramount Pictures finally took over the film project. Jonathan Goldstein (51) and John Francis Daley (35), who are behind the action comedy "Game Night", among others, are responsible as scriptwriters and directors.

More successful than its predecessor?

The first "Dungeons and Dragons" film by director Courtney Solomon (49) was released in 2000. At the box office, the film with Justin Whalin (46), Jeremy Irons (72) and Thora Birch (38) turned out to be a flop. Nevertheless, two sequels followed in 2005 and 2012. The remake, possibly with "Wonder Woman" star Pine in the lead role, is due to premiere in May 2022.
