“I want to understand what happened” – Christian Eriksen spoke out publicly for the first time after his collapse.

Christian Eriksen (29) declared in the first public message since his cardiac arrest that he would “not give up”. The Danish soccer star collapsed on Saturday during the European Championship game against Finland in Copenhagen. While still on the square, he had to be resuscitated before being taken to the hospital.

In a message he got through his agent transmitted to the newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, the player, who is under contract with Inter Milan, addressed the fans: “Thank you, I will not give up. I feel better now – but I want to understand what happened.” His agent Martin Schoots also told the newspaper after a meeting with the player that Eriksen was doing better: “He was joking, he was in a good mood.” At the beginning of the week, he should therefore remain in the hospital for further examinations. The reason for Eriksen’s collapse is apparently not yet known.

“I think you are worse off than me”

According to media reports, Eriksen already spoke via video chat on Sunday with his teammates, who returned to the pitch after the incident to end the game. The Danes lost 0-1. According to coach Kasper Hjulmand (49), Eriksen told his team: “I think you are worse off than me.”
