Interview with Christian Lindner
“As a rule, women are more qualified than men!”
BRIGITTE Editor-in-Chief Brigitte Huber interviewed Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner at the Female Impact Summit in Berlin.
At the Female Impact Summit last Friday, 120 great and inspiring women from business, politics, media and society came together in Berlin’s Capital Club for networking and exchange. In the main panel of the event, Brigitte Huber and MDR editor Yara Hoffmann interviewed Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner.
Christian Lindner on the visibility of women in politics
Among other things, Lindner commented on the lack of visibility of women in top politics, which he very much regrets, since women are often smarter than men: “As a rule, women are more qualified than men!”, said the Federal Minister of Finance. The reason he gave was that men often have a greater need for self-expression.
For his ministry, he announced a change in top management shortly, with which parity would be achieved. However, he was not able to give any details at the event. “You will read about it in the media,” says Christian Lindner.
The discussion also focused on the FDP’s general friendliness to women. When asked whether his party was specifically targeting men for politics, given the predominantly male members, Christian Lindner said no: “No, on the contrary. I believe that the FDP has the most attractive offer for women.” And justified this with a package of modern social policy and a “reasonable” economic policy that his party offers. Apparently, this has not yet reached the majority of women, since only 22 percent of FDP members are female – and the trend is declining.
The Female Impact Summit had a top-class cast, in addition to Christian Lindner, Verena Pausder, entrepreneur and co-founder of FC Viktoria Berlin, Prof. Dr. Jutta Allmendinger, President of the Berlin Social Science Center, Michael Michalsky, fashion designer and designer, and Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, national coach of the German women’s national team, speakers at the event, which was all about female empowerment.
