Christian Ulmens Commissioner Lessing died in the latest Weimar edition, the death of a crime thriller. The fans then sent him condolences.

For many "Tatort" fans it was apparently a shock: Inspector Lessing, played by Christian Ulmen (45), died in the New Year's episode "The fine spirit". The actor now declares on Instagram that he has received numerous condolences.

"Dear friends, dear mourners", Ulmen opens his contribution, which deals with one of the big issues in life with black humor. When he "argues against dying", it is always explained to him "how great death is, it belongs to life, eternity is dreary, only finiteness would make moments precious, even meaningful (!)". I think that elms are "bullshit". He thought that "everyone would be okay with death, I could die in the 'crime scene'". But then "the screaming was great".

When asked by the news agency spot on news, the responsible broadcaster MDR had previously stated that the basic idea actually came from the actor himself: "The death of our Commissioner Lessing and the continuation of his character as a ghost was a creative suggestion from Christian Ulmen." They were happy to take it up because they see an exciting development in it.

What's next

"Thank you very much for your sympathy," says Ulmen in his post. "Anyone who cannot derive an increased value from Lessing's death for the eleven Weimar 'Tatorte' they left behind with crazy Norma Tschirrer and me and is just sad about the unbelievable impositions of mortality, weeps with justification." Of course, Ulmen means colleague Nora Tschirner (39, Kira Dorn), his counterpart in the investigative team.

The actor then confirms once again that the "crime scene" from Weimar will continue. The broadcaster had previously stated that due to the corona pandemic in 2021, no further edition should be produced for the time being, because due to shifts in rotation, it was not possible to agree on an appointment. That's why they want to wait for the effect of the film and only then decide how to develop the format further.

Ulmen's closing comment: "So we stay excited and confident in the face of the insolence that we will all die, and we humbly look forward to the new crime scene from Weimar …"
