The 256-year-old auction house Christie’s is launching its own NFT marketplace on Ethereum. This gave the institution in one press release known. Christie’s 3.0 is the name of the new platform on which an exclusive collection by Diana Sinclair will be available from the start.
This makes Christie’s the first auction house in the world to offer NFT sales entirely on the blockchain. Christie’s is building on previous forays into the digital collectibles sector. In March 2021, for example, the auction house held the sale of Beeple’s artwork “Everydays: The First 5,000 Days” for a whopping $69.3 million.
With the new offshoot, Christie’s now appears to be venturing fully into the NFT sector. According to the company, the new platform demonstrates its “commitment to both artists and collectors in Web 3.0”.
