Christina Ricci reveals a very private detail from her life as a mother: She was unable to form a bond with her child.

How do you as a mother deal with it if you don’t build a proper bond with your own child? The actress Christina Ricci, 44, experienced exactly that with her daughter Cleo, 2, who she had with her husband Mark Hampton in 2021 and is now speaking honestly and openly about this difficult topic.

Christina Ricci on daughter Cleo: “She didn’t know me”

In the podcast “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty”, the actress lets her feelings run free with host Shannen Doherty, 52, and talks about a tough topic. During the filming of the series “Yellowjackets”, the mother of two often had to commute between the filming location in Vancouver and her home. The relationship with daughter Cleo, 2, suffered as a result. “She didn’t know me. We had no bond. That was very disturbing,” she explains in an interview. Despite this, or precisely because of this, she tried even harder to “get everything done” and to combine her professional and private life. But this is not so easy.

The personal often falls by the wayside

Even when the 44-year-old tries to reconcile the two worlds, it often fails. The main reason for this is the associated costs. “When you’re a regular in the series you have to pay for everything, so I can’t […] “Every time I fly back and forth, I can’t pay for four people, four flights, and the rooms,” she explains, revealing that she can’t always afford to bring everyone in her family with her on set However, she tries to take her son Freddie, 9, with her more often because she has learned to integrate him into her “working life.”

It’s all about the right support

“He didn’t help me with anything,” explains Christina Ricci about her ex-husband James Heerdegen, Freddie’s father. This made her work as an actress and her role as a mother even more difficult. Her son always had to sleep in bed with her so that she could get enough sleep to be fit for the next day. Everything is different in her marriage to Mark Hampton. She was back in front of the camera just two months after the birth of her daughter. “Mark took over every night. I just slept and was able to work the next day and it made a huge difference. This time it was a lot easier. You know, you have to have a good, supportive partner,” she finally elaborates. This has certainly enabled her to concentrate better on her work without always having to worry about combining professional and private life.
