Christine Theiss reveals details about the new season “Life Made Easy – The Biggest Loser” and gives tips on exercise for the winter.

From January 2, 2022, 20 candidates want to reduce their three tons of body weight: The popular weight loss show “The Biggest Loser” returns with 14 new episodes (every Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on Sat.1 and on Joyn). This time there are some changes to come for the participants and the audience. The largest of these can be found in the title: In future, the show with Dr. Christine Theiss (41) “Life Made Easy – The Biggest Loser”. In addition to Theiss and Ramin Abtin (49), newcomer and personal trainer Sigrid Ilumaa will help the candidates get closer to their desired weight. Prominent guest coaches will also pass on their experiences to the participants.

In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Camp boss Christine Theiss reveals how the name change came about and which guest coach she particularly admires. In addition, the ex-kickboxer gives exercise tips for the cold season and in the corona pandemic. She also looks back on her personal year 2021.

What is the new title “Life Made Easy” for “The Biggest Loser” about?

Christine Theiss: On the one hand, we are reacting to the criticism of the “loser” that has been going on for years. Even if this was only meant as a play on words, many people have found this disrespectful to our candidates and of course that is the last thing we want. In addition, our show is now so much more than just a weight-loss format. It’s not just about weight, many of our participants are completely changing their lives. We want to emphasize this with the new title. Away from the fixation on the mere kilos.

What does the newcomer Sigrid Ilumaa bring to the team, what makes her special?

Theiss: Sigrid is great and I am totally happy to have her on our team. She is a very warm woman who can approach people well and accepts them without prejudice. In addition to her cheerful and motivating manner, she also has good specialist knowledge and has a lot of experience in dealing with overweight people.

This time there are prominent guest coaches. How were they selected and what exactly do they do?

Theiss: This year we have a number of guest coaches visiting us, who put their heart and soul at the side of our participants and support them in starting a new life. That was Jimmy Hartwig, Alexander Kumptner, Miriam Höller, Angelina Kirsch and Fabian Hambüchen. They are all strong personalities with very different life paths and focuses, who were able to share their very personal experiences, solutions and values with our participants in personal coaching.

Which guest coach do you admire most and why?

Theiss: The question is mean because I don’t want to put anyone back in the second row. But I can’t hide the fact that Fabian Hambüchen is a really big hero for me and I was even more nervous at our meeting than our candidates, who didn’t even know what to expect or who was waiting for them. Fabian’s will in the years before the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and the strong nerves there are absolutely admirable.

You have been part of “Life Made Easy – The Biggest Loser” since 2012. What motivates you to be the camp manager every year?

Theiss: I love accompanying our participants on their way into a new life. To make the impossible possible together with my team. After all these years I am still fascinated by how people manage to get rid of their old baggage and start all over again. Suddenly they create things that no one, especially they themselves, would not have believed possible. I also love working with my two coaches Sigrid Ilumaa and Ramin Abtin and the team behind the camera with all my heart.

When would the point be reached for you to say goodbye to the format?

Theiss: If I had to give myself away.

The cold season and the corona pandemic make sporting activity difficult for many people. Which training do you recommend and what motivational tip do you have?

Theiss: Go out! Jogging or just taking a brisk walk are great. If it’s dry, you can also do a 20-minute strength circuit outside. You need your own body weight, maybe a step or something to hold on to, depending on the exercise. Functional training is of course always done at home. The only things it takes is the will to start and the discipline to go through with it. Unfortunately, that’s the hardest part of it all. So keep fixed times for exercise in your calendar so that you don’t find out in bed in the evening that you’ve already forgotten about exercise.

What do you think of New Year’s resolutions for exercise and diet?

Theiss: Resolutions only bring something if they are actually implemented. So most of the time they don’t bring anything. If you really want to change something, I think you should start right away, regardless of the date.

How do you look back personally on your year 2021, what were the highlights but also the difficult moments?

Theiss: I personally find the division in our society to be very difficult. But I do not blame politics for this, but rather the people who believe that solidarity is an individual decision and, with their ruthless attitude of refusal, arrest a whole society. Millions of people get vaccinated and take a back seat for the good of all. But all of these efforts are being destroyed by increasingly aggressive oaths and corona deniers who trample on everyone’s rights. Above all, however, they destroy the chance of normalcy in the near future for our children, the sick and those (few) people who actually cannot be vaccinated.

Nevertheless, the year 2021 had many beautiful moments that you might not otherwise have noticed. Regardless of whether it is a great day out with the family, a wonderful sunset or an enjoyable evening in a restaurant.

What do you wish for in 2022?

Theiss: I would like to see more common sense and less hate in 2022.
