Christmas: At these times, streets and supermarkets are pretty empty

When should you travel and shop at Christmas if you want to protect your nerves as much as possible? It’s best when everyone else isn’t doing it.

Unfortunately, the celebration of love and contemplation is often a stress festival or a stress test for the family. Everyone wants to go Christmas their wishes and needs have to be reconciled, gifts have to be taken care of and lovingly wrapped and mountains of food have to be prepared. And then on the holidays you drive from your parents to your in-laws, to your aunt, to your brother and to your grandma because everyone wants to eat with a cookie, you get stuck in a traffic jam and despair. To make matters worse, with all the hustle and bustle, our perfectionism also gets in the way: everything has to happen flawlessly and harmoniously and woe betide you if it doesn’t.

So how do you get through the holidays without having a nervous breakdown? Firstly, by spreading the holiday preparations across everyone in the family. And secondly, by being out and about shopping when possible when not everyone else is doing so.

This is where Google Maps comes into play. They evaluated the data on traffic volume and rush to stores around the holidays in 2022 and drew the following conclusions for this year:

On the street

In the shops

If you can arrange it, you should stick to the stress-free times – and enjoy the happiness of finally seeing everyone again at Christmas.
