For many, eating and drinking abundantly is a part of Christmas. How the extra pounds tumble quickly, explains Dr. Silja Schäfer.

A juicy roast in the evening, an extensive brunch the next day and coffee and biscuits in the afternoon. Over the Christmas holidays some struck while eating. It seems reasonable to assume that this will result in a few extra pounds for the body. Dr. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Silja Schäfer gives the all-clear: "If you eat more than usual over the Christmas holidays, you don't need to worry, because habits don't change that quickly." The specialist in general medicine and internal medicine and author of "Lose weight despite 1000 excuses" has tips on how the few extra calories disappear quickly.

Discharge days after the holidays

Anyone who has accessed as they please over the holidays will not have to struggle with extra kilos. "You can quickly get back to your usual rhythm," says Schäfer – and warns: "However, if you eat more throughout the entire Christmas period – i.e. from December 1st to January 6th – your body may move around. "

Then, but also if you want to do something good for yourself after the high-calorie Christmas holidays, the doctor recommends "a few days of relief": "It's good for everyone – even if it's only for one day." She explains: "If they have eaten a lot in the evening and their stomach has stretched a lot, most of them are hungry again the next day." It is therefore important to adjust the stomach to eat a little less again. What is on everyone's lips right now is intermittent fasting. Schäfer advises: "If you don't have to work right after the Christmas holidays, you can try it out: Sleep in late and postpone breakfast so that there is plenty of time between dinner and breakfast."

Another possibility than intermittent fasting is to introduce a couple of juice days, "one or two is enough". On a day off with vegetable juices, the three regular meals are replaced by vegetable juices. It is important to avoid this mistake: "Drink a lot of vegetable juices, not fruit juices!" Emphasizes Schäfer. She also recommends those who have used alcohol frequently over the holidays to relieve the liver in the following days. In other words: first take a break from alcohol.

Lose weight particularly quickly and relieve the liver with the help of the oat days

"If you want to lose weight quickly and get into your old habits, I recommend oat days. These are used for patients with liver disease or diabetes, for example, but are worthwhile for everyone," says the doctor. You eat oat flakes for one to three days: "Three meals a day with 75 grams of oat flakes each." Bring the flakes to the boil in water or oat milk. For more flavor, Schäfer has a tip: "If you want, you can combine some cooked vegetables or fruit with it."

Oat days are also worthwhile for everyone who courageously picked up the wine bottle at Christmas, because "the body is completely relieved – and especially the liver," explains the expert. When it comes to alcohol, the motto is: "Enjoy, the less the better."

Because alcohol is not only harmful to the liver: "Alcohol is broken down by the liver, which puts a heavy strain on the metabolism. If you add fatty food, that's a bad combination." On the one hand, alcohol has many calories that are added to food. On the other hand, he ensures that fat burning is stopped, since the liver is primarily concerned with alcohol. Schäfer explains: "The liver therefore converts everything that is added to food relatively quickly into fat. This fat quickly becomes visceral fat – the bad belly fat."

Movement is essential

In addition to the various options for getting your body used again, exercise is also crucial: "The more exercise, the better. After eating, you should rest or take 1,000 steps: As far as this saying goes, after Christmas you should definitely do the second . " Because whoever moves stimulates the metabolism, says Schäfer. "Plus, going for a walk in the fresh air will put you in a good mood," she adds. "You don't have to do sports."
