Christmas will be "probably under curfew" and "in a small committee", according to the president of the scientific council

On Thursday, October 29, 2020, the president of the scientific council Jean-François Delfraissy, spoke on France Inter about the reconfinement and the end-of-year celebrations.

This Wednesday, October 28, 2020, President Emmanuel Macron's announcement was a blow to many. A general re-containment was confirmed this Friday. These measures were taken in the hope of celebrating Christmas and the New Year with as few constraints as possible. This Thursday, October 29, 2020, Jean-François Delfraissy, the president of the scientific council spoke at the microphone of France Inter and says the holidays will be like no other this year: "The holiday season, I think it will be different this year from other years."

A third wave is not excluded

According to him, Christmas and the New Year could be done "under curfew" and "in a small group" : "They will be done in small groups, they will probably still be under curfew", he explains. In addition, the Chairman of the Scientific Council does not overlook the possibility of a third wave if the situation is not under control over the long term: "A third wave is not excluded."

Social distancing and barrier gestures will therefore still be relevant at Christmas. It remains to be seen what measures will actually be taken. But Jean-François Delfraissy wants, despite everything, to remain optimistic: “I’m basically an optimist. I’ve been through HIV, AIDS, I’ve been through Ebola… We're going to get through this, because innovation will happen, but it won't happen until spring 2021.”
