Christoph Daum: Environmental awareness is a matter of course for him

For football coach Christoph Daum (66), values are important: "I honor the ten commandments", he said at the economic summit "EuroMinds Europe in Focus" in Hamburg and admitted with a smile: "Only with the command 'You shouldn't lie' it could be that I have not always fully complied with that. " Above all, love for the neighbor is very important to him: "Treat others as you would like to be treated!" For him it is therefore clear: "The economy can no longer avoid taking environmental aspects into account", he explained at the event on the campus of the Bucerius Law School, where 500 guests from politics, business, sport and entertainment came together on Friday to exchange ideas. The event will continue on Saturday with partners from business and the media such as Focus and Siemens.

The crucial task is to "reconcile ecological and economic interests," continued Daum. He himself lives in an environmentally conscious way: waste separation, little meat, mainly trains instead of airplanes are a matter of course and he gives lectures on the subject: What can business learn from sport? In it he praises the advantages of team spirit, integrity and the importance of interpersonal relationships.

"There are black sheep"

Former EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger (66) summed up the importance of the meeting in Hamburg, which will also take place again next year: "There are no bad entrepreneurs, but there are black sheep. What worries me is that that many entrepreneurs have recently withdrawn from social responsibility. " In order to successfully implement political standards worldwide, including for more environmental compatibility, the economy is needed on board.

For former boxing world champion Henry Mask (56), honesty is one of the most important principles in life: "With me you always know what you're at," he said on the sidelines of the "EuroMinds" economic summit. For the athlete, on the other hand, the change from boxer and lone fighter to entrepreneur and team player was not a matter of course: "I had learned to assert myself, to win when it matters. But I had to learn to be patient. Not to set my pace, but to accept the pace that the employees have and still maintain the level. "

"There is so much more important"

For politician Gesine Schwan (76), the preparation for a value-oriented life in childhood begins: "For the past 30 years we have had an economic policy that said: The market regulates everything. That was also the goal in education policy: a competition in the classes for the best. But there is so much more important: cooperation, creativity, curiosity, willingness to learn, knowing and accepting your own strengths and weaknesses. We have to go there. " Reliability, empathy and self-determination are important to her. Schwan: "My mother shaped me a lot. A social worker who was in resistance, always discussed a lot and wanted to get to the bottom of things."

"I'm working to be more relaxed"

The values of loyalty and credibility are important to the moderator and actress Nova Meierhenrich (46). In addition, people should not only think about their personal advantages, but also always take into account the interests of others: "My girlfriend's children currently refuse to go on vacation by plane. That is why I am going to Sweden this year. I like that . " Being self-critical also has limits. She had to take responsibility early on and set high standards for herself, which also transferred to others: "I am always very disappointed when my often very high demands on myself are not met to the same extent by others. I am working on to be more gracious and relaxed towards myself but also towards others. "

Acting colleague and "EuroMinds" moderator Andrea Gerhard (36) considers indulgence, humor and empathy to be important. Gerhard is certain that empathy can be trained and calls an exercise from her acting training: "Stand in front of the mirror for three minutes and tell yourself what you like about yourself and keep eye contact all the time." That sounds easy, but it's damn hard to endure. However, the exercise pays off: "If you don't believe this, you should just do it!" These sessions helped her to grow to a height of 185 centimeters, from which she had suffered for a long time as a woman. Gerhard knows: "Only those who value themselves and accept what they are like can pass this feeling on to others."
