Christopher Nolan seems unwilling to accept Warner Bros.'s new distribution model. Does this mean the end of the collaboration?

For Christopher Nolan (50, "Memento") Warner Bros. was "the largest film studio" in the world for a long time. Now the star director seems to want to turn away from the company entirely. The reason: Warner Bros. plans to offer films on the streaming service HBO Max at the same time as the cinema release. A project that Nolan apparently cannot approve of.

As the "Wall Street Journal" learned from an insider who was not named, Nolan will no longer realize future projects in collaboration with Warner Bros. This is "unlikely". The 50-year-old had already made a similar suggestion in December 2020.

Director does not hold back criticism

Shortly after Warner Bros. unveiled its hybrid distribution plan, Nolan told The Hollywood Reporter, "Some of the greatest filmmakers and stars in our industry went to bed the night before, believing they were working for the biggest film studio, and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service. " At the time, the director primarily criticized the – in his eyes – inefficiency of the decision made.

Christopher Nolan celebrated his breakthrough as a director with the 2000 thriller "Memento". This was followed by hits like "Batman Begins" (2005) and sequels, "Inception" (2010), "Interstellar" (2014) and "Dunkirk" (2017). In 2020 he was also responsible for "Tenet", which was the only true blockbuster to venture to the cinema in the Corona year.
