Chrome, the most used browser in the world, is renowned for its performance, but also for its gargantuan consumption of RAM. Aware of this defect, Google will gradually deploy a memory saver, like what Microsoft did with Edge. The operation will be strictly identical: Chrome will be able to put inactive tabs to sleep and thus save your computer’s resources. The publisher announces a saving of up to 40% in memory use or up to 10 GB of RAM.
In addition, Google introduces a power saving mode for laptops, when they are running on battery power. This mode can be applied, as desired, below 20% battery or as soon as the computer is running on its battery. Chrome will reduce background processes and limit the visual effects of animations and videos of visited sites. It will also be possible to exclude certain sites in the settings.
Those in a hurry can already activate the two features by typing in their search bar:

For other users, the rollout of battery and RAM savers on Windows, macOS, and Chromebook will be gradual.
