A group of holidaymakers from Reggio Emilia wanted to spend a relaxing stay in the Trentino village of Rumo in the Val di Non. However, as the Italian daily newspaper “La Repubblica” writes, the constant ringing of the bells of the church of San Lorenzo Martire was very disturbing. The bells rang 48 times a day, a total of 184 times, even at night.
Dispute escalates in Trentino, holidaymakers leave
The holidaymakers called on the municipality and parish to take action. But according to “La Repubblica”, the municipal authorities in turn suggested that the tourists should “return home”. This led to tensions and threats that even affected the mayor, Michela Noletti. “I was personally threatened,” she explained.
The dispute escalated and the tourists left. As “La Repubblica” reports, the matter could now end up in court. Representatives of the church community criticized the tourists’ demands as unreasonable.
Algae on the Adriatic: Holidaymakers prefer swimming pools
A little further south on the Adriatic, it is not the church bells that are causing problems for tourists, but rather foul-smelling algae. Many holidaymakers therefore avoid the affected beaches and prefer to swim in swimming pools. Cities such as Rimini and Riccione are therefore increasingly submitting applications to build pools.
