CINEMA: Blair Witch, a new film announced with a horrific producer

In 1999, The Blair Witch Project by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez revolutionized horror cinema. Popularizing the genre of found footageit follows a small group of students investigating the legend of the witch of Blair, before getting lost in the forest. Playing on the realism of the images and the theories of spectators at a time when the Internet was gaining momentum, the film was a hit, bringing in nearly $250,000 million at the box office. With an initial budget of $35,000, The Blair Witch Project is one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history.

Obviously, a sequel quickly saw the light of day in 2000, the terrifying Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (not because he’s scary, but because he sucks). In 2016, Lionsgate produced a slightly better remake, the company wants to do it again and announces a new movie Blair Witch produced in partnership with Blumhouse. Jason Blum’s company is known for its horror films, notably for Paranormal Activityagain one found footage low-budget ($15,000) which grossed big (nearly $200 million) at the box office. Blumhouse Productions is also behind the films American Nightmare, Ouija, InsidiousTHE Halloween And The Exorcist: Devotion by David Gordon Green or Whiplash by Damien Chazelle, who acts as a bit of a UFO in all this.

The Hollywood Reporterwhich reveals the information, recalls that Lionsgate And Blumhouse have already collaborated on Imaginary by Jeff Wadlow, a horror film released in theaters last month and which has had a small commercial success, despite very mixed reviews. Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgatestates:

I have had the incredible opportunity to work with Jason on several occasions over the years. We built a strong relationship on American Nightmare when I was at Universal and we launched STX with its film The Gift. There’s no one better at this genre than the team at Blumhouse. We are thrilled to launch this partnership with a new vision for Blair Witch that reintroduces this horror classic for a new generation.

Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productionsadds:

I don’t think there would have been Paranormal Activity if there hadn’t been Blair Witch first, so this seems like a really special opportunity and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

You would have understood it, this new film project Blair Witch is only in its infancy, we will have to wait to discover the scenario, the casting and a release date, even if we must expect young people and strange phenomena in a forest, trademarks of the franchise. Until then, you can find The Blair Witch Project from 1999 on Blu-ray from €11.13 on Amazon And there Fnac.
