Cinema comeback: These films will make movie fans happy in 2021

Bombast à la "Bond", horror à la "Halloween Kills" or would you prefer mindblow à la "Matrix 4"? Here are all the upcoming cinema highlights for 2021.

As frustrating as the 2020 cinema year was, the new one could be so promising. Because in view of the corona pandemic, an abundance of promising films have been postponed and add just as many potential blockbusters that would have started in 2021 anyway. And wait like that, Corona shouldn't put another thick line through the cinema bill, both Daniel Craig (52) alias James Bond and Tom Cruise (58) alias Mister "Mission: Impossible" Ethan Hunt on the audience. Before things really get going, you have to wait at least until the end of March – here are the upcoming highlights of the cinema year 2021.

January

In view of the latest developments, the beginning of the new year turns out to be pure sadness. According to the latest government decisions, the cinemas will remain closed until the end of the month.

February

So February comes along. Bavarian entertainment is offered by the film "Der Boandlkramer and Eternal Love" (February 11) with Michael Bully Herbig (52) and Hape Kerkeling (55). Whether this film can really appear is at least highly uncertain.

March

Family entertainment will be provided in March by the real-life version of the eternal arguers "Tom & Jerry" (March 18). And for comic fans, Jared Leto (48) will also be waiting for the Spider-Man opponent "Morbius" on March 18th. Also for the back of the head: "Nomadland" (theatrical release: March 18) with Oscar winner and character actress Frances McDormand (63).

April

Will it finally be that far on April 2nd after around one and a half years of involuntary waiting? The bad luck stuck to Daniel Craig in his final appearance as James Bond on the agent's heel. After several postponements, "No Time to Die" is set to usher in the new blockbuster era in April. One can only hope that this date will not be shaken and stirred again and that Craig can finally celebrate his farewell as 007.

Otherwise, little is to be expected in April. Because next to Tom Hanks (64) next film "Bios" (April 15th) only the second part of the unusual horror film "A Quiet Place" should be emphasized. The film by John Krasinski (41) and with Emily Blunt (37) should start on April 22nd.

May

On the other hand, it will be brutal and loud in May – this is ensured by comic heroes, PS junkies, horror sadists and giant monsters. Scarlett Johansson (36) will start on May 5th as "Black Widow", who will then go on a solo adventure in the Marvel universe for the first time. On May 20th, however, it will be bloody – then the reboot of "Saw" with the nickname "Spiral" starts, with comedian Chris Rock (55) in the lead role.

From May 20th, those who are more into skyscraper-sized monsters instead of splatter can watch the fight "Godzilla vs. Kong". And if that's not enough of the crazy adrenaline, exactly one week later (May 27th) just rush to "Fast & Furious 9" in the direction of the cinema.

June

Nostalgic people can look forward to June. Then from June 10th new and old warriors will meet in "Ghostbusters – Legacy". Also included are all of the original ghost hunters who are still alive, i.e. Bill Murray (70), Dan Aykroyd (68), Ernie Hudson (74) and Sigourney Weaver (71). Harold Ramis alias Egon Spengler unfortunately passed away in 2014.

Those who prefer to stick with coarse beings from space instead of ghosts and have no problem with violence can mark June 24th. Then Tom Hardy (43) will be hungry for bad boys for the second time as antihero "Venom".

July

The "Top Gun" fighter jets were actually supposed to take off in 2020, but Corona kept them on the ground. Things should go better from July 8th, 2021, when Tom Cruise will defy the G-forces again after 35 years as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

A week later, gamers in particular get their money's worth. The eagerly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling video game "Uncharted" is set to premiere on the big screen on July 15th. The main character Nathan Drake will slip into Spider-Man actor and Marvel hero Tom Holland (24). For basketball fans who are young at heart, there will also be a treat on July 15th: In "Space Jam 2", LeBron James (35) will follow in the huge footsteps of Michael Jordan (57) and join forces with Bugs Bunny and Co.

August

James Gunn (54) opens August with his reinterpretation of the critically failed "The Suicide Squad". From August 5th, Margot Robbie (30) will be there again as weird Harley Quinn, and Idris Elba (48) will also be there. If you want to know how Ben Affleck (48) and Ana de Armas (32) got to know and love each other, you should watch the erotic thriller "Deep Water" from August 12th, in which the two play the leading roles. August will end on August 26th with the horror film "Candyman", the new edition of the horror series of the same name from the 90s.

September

In September, on the other hand, there is actually only one highlight – but what a highlight! On September 30th, Denis Villeneuves (53) will start the remake of the bestseller "Dune" aka "Der Wüstenplanet" in German cinemas. Epochal pictures meet an absolute star lineup. To name just a few: Oscar Isaac (41), Timothée Chalamet (24), Javier Bardem (51), Josh Brolin (52), Zendaya (24), Stellan Skarsgård (69) and Rebecca Ferguson (37).

October

October is Halloween month! In the cinema, too, the coming "Schocktober" is all about the horror festival. With the exception of the "Halloween Kills" with Jamie Lee Curtis (62), which has been postponed by exactly one year and is due to start on October 14th, it looks rather poor. Fortunately, the end of the year spurt in November and December provides a remedy.

November

From November 4th, the MCU will start the next phase with the film "Eternals". In addition to Angelina Jolie (45), the "Game of Thrones" beauties Kit Harington (33) and Richard Madden (34) as well as Salma Hayek (54) become supermen. Apropos Übermensch: Tom Cruise will embark on his seventh impossible mission on November 18th. As Ethan Hunt he will save the world once again in "Mission: Impossibe 7" – a matter of honor!

December

Tom Holland's third solo adventure as the friendly spider next door will be a reality thanks to "Spider-Man 3" on December 16th. But the highlight at the end of the coming year will be another film. Because with "Matrix 4", Neo (Keanu Reeves, 56), Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss, 53) and the like are returning to the greenish world of illusion on December 23 and 17 years after part three! One can only hope that part four will approach the first foray into the "Matrix" in 1999 in terms of quality. Then a worthy finale for the 2021 cinema year would have been found.
