CINEMA: Constantine, a sequel to the 2005 film still with Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence formalized, the serial reboot canceled

The merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery will unfortunately have had the effect of changing the plans of the first for his service HBO Max. Many projects, including series based on comics, are in the process of being scrapped, including the feature film Batgirl which was in post-production.

The cancellation of 2 other productions intended for HBO Max just confirmed by variety this week. The first is series Mrs Xwritten by Angela Robinson and produced by JJ Abrams, which should have returned to the story of Madam Xanadu of the Justice League Dark. The other is the reboot of Constantinethe comics hellblazer of DC Comics already adapted into a film with Keanu Reeves in 2005 to be revisited in series for the video on demand platform. Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer were appointed showrunnersand JJ Abrams also played producers on this project.

From this bad news will however be born a good one: rather than making a series, JJ Abrams and Company bad robot will be able to develop another film Constantine ! Moreover, it will not be a reboot this time, buta sequel to the first feature film, which will mark the return of Keanu Reeves in the costume of John Constantine, this anti-hero with the powers of occultist and exorcist. Director Francis Lawrence, already behind the camera for the 2005 film, will return to serviceand Akiva Goldsman (Star Trek: New Worlds) will take care of the scenario.

This Constantine 2 currently has no release date, but until then the first can be seen or re-watched on Blu-ray from €11.99 on Amazon.co.uk.
