Despite several rumours, no sequel to the Joker of 2019 with Joaquin Phoenix had not been officially confirmed. But given the success of the film, which grossed over $1.074 billion at the box office, it’s hard to imagine that Warner Bros. Pictures and director Todd Phillips did not investigate the matter.
We learn this week that they did more than study it, because the project is being written ! Todd Phillips unveiled on instagram a photograph of a very red script, mentioning that he obviously finalized an early version of the story on May 18, 2022 alongside his collaborator Scott Silver. Better still, the document explicitly displays a title for this sequel: Joker: Madness for Two !
Is this the final title or just a provisional name? No one knows at the moment. On the other hand, this title may give a good clue about the scenario, because the term “madness for two” colloquially designates shared psychosis, a psychiatric phenomenon where an individual adopts and reproduces the psychotic behavior of a loved one. Should we understand that Arthur Fleck will find a playmate of the caliber of harley quinn or whatever, or is it a reference to a rivalry, why not with Batman ? To be continued…
