CINEMA: Moana, Dwayne Johnson announces a live-action adaptation of Moana: The Legend at the End of the World

Monday is a busy day for disney due to the annual shareholders’ meetingwhich probably explains why we were entitled to the trailer of Secret Invasionthat this is the day that has been chosen to open ticket sales for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 and for announce the presence ofIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at the Cannes Film Festival out of competition. Well, that’s not all, since it’s a new production live action which has just been unveiled, namely the adaptation of Moana: The Legend at the End of the World.

Also known as Moana to the English-speaking publicthis project will be produced by none other than Dwayne Johnson and his company Seven Bucks Productionswhich he co-founded with Dany and Hiram Garcia, in collaboration with Beau Flynn (Flynn Picture), already behind black adam. We will also find Auli’i Cravalho (the voice actor of the character of Moana/Moana) and Scott Sheldon as executive producersas well as Dana Ledoux Miller and Jared Bush, the latter of whom wrote the screenplay for the 2016 film.

This adventure inspired by Polynesian culture, in particular its deities, will be reimagined while continuing to celebrate Pacific Island traditions and communities. The actor gave the following speech, which is found in substance in the video used to unveil the project:

I am deeply touched and overwhelmed with gratitude to bring Moana’s beautiful story to life on the big screen. This story is my culture and this story is emblematic of the grace and warrior strength of our people. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this unique opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, Grand Chief Peter Maivia, is very profound to me. I would like to thank my partners at Disney for their strong commitment to this special endeavour, as there is no better world to honor the history of our people, our passion and our purpose than through the realm of music. and dance, which is at the heart of who we are as Polynesian people.

If you ever haven’t seen Moana (or at least in VO), maui is voiced there by Dwayne Johnson and the demigod possesses a giant magic hook, hence the actor holding a replica of it at the end. A priori, everything suggests that he will play the character on screen (even if it is not as wide), but the doubt is allowed, especially since nothing in the press release disney do not state clearly on this subject contrary to what can be reported on the Web, therefore wait & see. The same goes for Auli’i Cravalho in the title role, who simply said:

She had such a profound impact on the way we think about Disney Princesses. Moana’s strength and perseverance are an inspiration to audiences around the world, to me, and to everyone who helped bring her to life. I can’t wait to share his story in a whole new way.

Waiting to know more, Moana: The Legend at the End of the World is sold on Blu-ray at Fnac at the price of €9.99 on sale.
