CINEMA: Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom follows in the footsteps of the 1968 film in its first trailer

The novel The Planet of the Apes by Frenchman Pierre Boulle is a classic of modern literature and, following its release, inspired an entire cinematic universe with a series of five feature films spanning from 1968 to 1973, but also a TV series and another animated one. In 2001, Hollywood wanted to relaunch the license with a remake directed by Tim Burtonwhich unfortunately did not see a sequel even though it ended on a really good note cliffhanger. A decade later, the film Planet of the Apes origins from 2011 (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) finally managed to restart the machine and had two consequences: Planet of the Apes: The Showdown (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) And Planet of the Apes: Supremacy (War for the Planet of the Apes) signed by Matt Reeves, who concluded the arc of the character of Caesar (Andy Serkis). But 20th Century Studios was obviously not going to be satisfied with it and therefore ordered a sequel that we discovered in October 2022then only titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in English. Its first trailer finally dropped this Thursday and clearly sounds like a return to basics.

Trailer VOSTFR

This fourth part simply called Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom in French will take place several generations after the events of the trilogy, as different primate clans emerged. Nature has taken back its rights and the apes have evolved to the point of all talking, while humans have regressed to the Stone Age and are now being hunted. The story of this film will make us follow the chimpanzee Noah (Owen Teague), who will meet a young woman named Mae (Freya Allan) and embark on a journey for freedom with her. Except that they will find themselves confronted with the leader of a coastal clan calling themselves Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand), who does not hesitate to enslave all those who oppose him, in addition to searching for remaining traces of human technology.

The context will therefore partly recall that of the 1968 feature film, or at least what will lead to such a situation. Our protagonists will also be able to count on the help of the orangutan Raka (Peter Macon), who wears a pendant featuring the logo of Caesar inspired by the window of his room at the Rodman. We also find it on the poster which was shared and whose atmosphere is reminiscent of The Last of Us.
