Already five films for the Taxi saga from the first opus signed Gérard Pirès in 1998 to the recent Taxi 5 directed by Franck Gastambide. But it’s not just in this franchise that we take taxis to the movies. The proof with this new quiz!
It is undoubtedly the most famous taxi driver in cinema: Travis Bickle played by a remarkable Robert De Niro in the aptly named Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese. A former marine, this insomniac and lonely anti-hero lives on the fringes of a society in which he does not recognize himself.
In parallel with his nocturnal wanderings in New York in the 1970s, he will cross paths with Senator Charles Palantine’s assistant, Betsy (Cybill Shepherd) with whom he will fall in love but who will end up rejecting him, rejecting him even more in his feeling of exclusion. He will also meet Iris, a teenage prostitute (played by a very young Jodie Foster, then fourteen years old) whom he will try to get out of her precarious condition, by extricating her from the grip of her pimp ” Sports” Matthew (Harvey Keitel).
The film, released in 1976, marks the second collaboration between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese after Mean Streets, the beginning of a long and rich collaboration, since the two men will shoot no less than nine feature films together, and will meet again in 2023 with Killers of the Flower Moon.
The film will win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and will be nominated in four categories at the Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Film Music for the superb soundtrack by Bernard Hermann.
