This evening will therefore take place the 49th César ceremony which, for the fourth consecutive year, will take place within the Olympia grounds. An evening which will be chaired by the actress and director Valérie Lemercier, who had already had the opportunity to be the mistress of ceremonies in 2006, 2007 (we still remember her hilarious dance using the choreography of Louis de Funès in Rabbi Jacob) and 2010.
It’s always fun to indulge in the game of predictions, and we wouldn’t take too many risks by betting on Anatomy of a Fall by director Justine Triet, to emerge as the big winner of this evening, a film which has already had a very good box office success, having also won several awards such as the Palme d’Or at Cannes or more recently the Best Screenplay Award at the BAFTA Awards last weekend.
But if the film appears in no less than eleven categories this year (including Best Film, Best Direction and Best Actress), we should not forget a serious competitor, The Animal Kingdom by Thomas Cailley, which even did better with twelve nominations, and could well create a surprise by stealing some prestigious awards from the big favorite.
On the performer side, it is the phenomenon Raphaël Quenard who should attract all eyes, the omnipresent actor in recent months having the privilege of competing both in the Best Male Revelation category for Dog from the Junkyard by Jean-Baptiste Durand, and also in the Best Actor category for Yannick by Quentin Dupieux.
More prolific than ever, the latter has since already released a new film, Daaaaaali, in theaters since February 7. Also note a third nomination for Raphaël Quenard as director for Best Documentary Short Film.
