Even before the theatrical release of Sonic 2, the movie, Paramount had announced the development of a series live-action centered on Knuckles and a third feature film in order to continue to expand the universe of SEGA in cinematic format. Since then, we have learnedon the release date of Sonic 3, the movie set for December 20, 2024 in the United States as well as the main cast of the series simply called Knuckles (she was called Sonic The Series to its announcement). With the actors’ strike in recent months, we could have feared a postponement of this third part to the cinema, but apparently, scenes while CGI not requiring human beings could be rotated to save time. And that leads us to the classified ad that dropped this Wednesday.
The official account of the license in live-action has job a single evocative visual to make it clear that filming is underway again, confirming in passing that the theatrical release date has not changed. Two details are particularly interesting about the latter. The first is the most obvious, namely A teasing lower body Shadow the Hedgehog. If you haven’t seen Sonic 2, the movie, we informed you of his presence in the post-credits scene where the attention was mainly focused on his upper body while he was locked in a tank. Attention to detail will therefore be very present, with the inclusion of its inhibitor rings and its iconic shaped shoes.
The second, more subtle element is located on the clapperboard next to the name of director Jeff Fowler. Yes, we are of course talking about logo of Sonic 3, the movie. If a first version had been revealed as soon as it was announced during the presentation to investors (at 43:12), it has since evolved a little. Besides the 3 in red and black to evoke Shadow, the rounded outlines on either side of the text are a direct reference to the Sonic Adventure 2 game logo. Will the inspiration stop there or should we expect a storyline inspired by this popular episode? Wait & see.
