A fire broke out on Monday at the famous Cinecittà film studios. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control.

A fire broke out on Monday August 1 at the famous Cinecittà film studios in Rome. No injuries are to be deplored but the fire destroyed an entire stage reconstituting Florence at the time of the Renaissance. The latter was being dismantled.

The fire started in the afternoon and raised fears of the worst in this period of severe drought, but firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control. “The fire was extinguished. There were no injuries, poisonings or serious material damage.“, announced a spokesperson for the studios in a press release.

The legendary Italian studios that hosted the filming of Ben-Hur (1959), La Dolce Vita (1960), Cleopatra (1963), Gangs of New York (2002), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), Angels and Démons (2009) or even The Godfather, 3rd part (1990), had unveiled last year a development plan of 260 million euros in order to become by 2026, an “important European cinematographic pole” and regain its splendor of yesteryear.
