CINEMA: The Little Mermaid, the live-action adaptation with Halle Bailey offers a first musical teaser under the ocean

For a few years now, disney adapts its great animation classics to the format live action, that is to say with real shots generally involving real actors. One of the next projects of this kind that we will be able to discover on the big screens, unlike the Pinocchio by Robert Zemeckis published this Thursday on Disney+it will be The little MermaidWhere The Little Mermaid of its original title, which was entitled to a first teaser trailer last night as part of the D23 Expo.

The Little Mermaid will be released on May 26, 2023 in cinemas and will reimagine the cult animated film making us follow the mermaid Arielwho will be interpreted here by Halle Bailey and which was apparently a revelation for director Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns). We understand this because his interpretation of Going thereor rather Part of Your World in its original version, heard at the end of this first preview has something to charm. Besides, 4 unreleased songs created by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda can be heard, going hand in hand with this desire to offer something new while honoring the original film.

The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and feisty young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. Being the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to learn more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls in love with the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the wicked sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately puts her life – and her father’s crown – in danger.
