CINEMA: Tomb Raider, Alicia Vikander not very reassuring about the future of the sequel

With more than 274 million dollars collected at the box office, the tomb Raider of 2018 was a nice little success, which had led MGM to sign on for a sequel with director Ben Wheatley and screenwriter Amy Jump. COVID-19 has been there since and the tech team’s plans have changed, leading producers to turn to Misha Green last year (Lovecraft County) for the staging and the story.

Since then, the project does not seem to be progressing and it could stall a little, or even be totally abandoned one day. Asked by Entertainment Weekly about this Tomb Raider 2lead actress Alicia Vikander has indeed explained that following the acquisition of MGM by Amazonproduction of the sequel had been shelved.

With the takeover of MGM and Amazon, I have no idea. Now, this is kind of a political story. I think Misha and I are ready, so it’s kind of in someone else’s hands, to be honest.

Amazon would he have put his nose in the papers of MGM to reassess the interest of its future productions, slowing down the process leading up to the release? The future of Tomb Raider 2 would it be so uncertain that a cancellation could be looming? It must be said that the more time passes, the less the sequel to the tomb Raider of 2018, far from being essential, would have enough interest to attract the public. Let’s hope for the fans of the film that it is only a classic production hazard, and that the shooting will one day end up being launched. If you haven’t seen it yet, tomb Raider is available on Blu-ray from €6.48 on Amazon.co.uk.
