Circet is chosen to take over Scopelec

The fate of the Orange operator’s subcontractor is fixed. The Lyon commercial court ruled on Wednesday in favor of the company Circet to take over the majority of the activities of the company Scopelec, which had been placed in receivership in September.

Circet plans to keep 1,049 jobs out of the 2,300 employees of the cooperative group.

Circet, which provides telecom infrastructure services, takes over “all of Scopelec’s activity, excluding Reunion-Mayotte, Usages and Services, South-East, for Gobé and Scopelec Energies Services”, according to the judgment of the court quoted by AFP.

Loss of Orange markets, fatal blow for Scopelec

Scopelec had announced in July that it was preparing to lay off around 500 employees following the loss of the Orange markets in November 2021.

Scopelec was one of Orange’s main subcontractors for fiber laying and network maintenance. But at the end of 2021, the operator chose to renew its partners in order to put an end to the numerous complaints relating to the deterioration in the quality of service in fiber connections. The contract finally came to an end in March. A fatal blow for Scopelec, which lost a large part of its income and turnover on this occasion.

Circet’s offer was considered more financially sound than those of the other takeover candidates, including the Newscope project, supported by the employees. On December 16, Scopelec employees wrote to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, to defend their takeover project, asking the President to position himself in the name of “sovereignty”.
