Is Amazon Prime Video holding its new spy franchise? In any case, this is what the streaming platform hopes with Citadela series produced by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame, The Gray Man) which should generate a vast universe of connected programs. After a few shots revealed last week, Amazon has just laid the first stone of this building with the trailer for the series, unveiled on Monday.

Did you say Jason Bourne?

Series Citadel is worn by the actor duo Richard Madden (Game Of Thrones, Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonah (Matrix Resurrections), who play spies who are part of the independent global agency Citadel. This one having been destroyed, their memories are erased and they rebuild their lives, hidden. Until the day when a former agent comes to ask for their help…

  • Watch the series trailer:

Spies, a secret agency, erased memories… If it vaguely reminds you of something, it’s not surprising, since it’s more or less the story of The memory in the skin (2002), Jason Bourne films, and a dozen of his ersatzs released over time. Total Recall, Goodbye forever, Trigger Point : the tale of the amnesiac spy who sees his dark past reappear is not new.

Here is the full synopsis of the series: “Eight years ago, Citadelle fell. The independent global spy agency charged with keeping everyone safe and secure has been taken down by agents of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from behind the scenes. With the fall of Citadel, elite agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh had their memories erased as they narrowly escaped. They have remained hidden ever since, (re)building new lives under new identities, unaware of their past. Until one night, when Mason is found by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick, who desperately needs his help to stop Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason then searches for his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them across the world in a bid to stop Manticore, while dealing with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and love. dangerous but unfailing”.

Notwithstanding this rather boat-like starting point, Citadel promises to be ambitious in every way: impressive action sequences, a cast of recognized actors and a (very comfortable) budget of 185 million dollars. The series also hopes to shake up the codes of this type of production, since several derivative series are already filming in Italy and India, in order to quickly offer a multitude of spin-offs located with local cast.

A “series-universe” that aims high and sees far. And to put all the chances on its side, it has acquired specialists in this field, the Russo brothers having made many Marvel films including Avengers: Infinity War And Endgameas well as the Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man. Citadel can also count on the direction of David Weil (Hunters, Invasion) inasmuch as showrunner.

Consisting of six episodes, the series Citadel will be broadcast from April 28 on Amazon Prime Video.
