Cities Skylines 2 will break everything, another crazy mechanic

Cities Skylines 2 continues to make announcements to attract its future community. Each time, it’s the opportunity to discover how much the management game surpasses its predecessor.

Cities Skylines 2 is preparing to significantly mark the world of management games, and more specifically City Builder. So far, all the announcements point in the same direction: the game will do everything better and in more depth than the first episode. To convince the most skeptical, the developers at Colossal Order reveal the presence of a feature generally very appreciated by players.

Cities Skylines 2 is beautiful and it knows it

Players of the first Cities Skylines know that no matter how long it takes to build our city or how complex it is to manage it, it is very pleasant to take a little time to admire it. Aware of the importance of taking a beautiful screenshot to show your city to the rest of the community or to your friends, the studio wanted to offer a photo and camera mode with great depth.

Thus, Photo mode offers a multitude of configurable options from five different tabs:

  • The “Camera” tab allows you to manipulate various parameters such as the camera body and lens, as well as the shape of the aperture.
  • “Lens”, which offers adjustments for depth of field, motion blur, and other such options.
  • “Color”, which allows you to adjust the image hues, white balance and brightness.
  • “Weather”, which gives control over various atmospheric elements such as clouds, fog, and atmosphere.
  • “Environment”, which allows you to adjust the time of day and simulation speed.

Finally, with the Cinematic Camera, players can create cutscenes by moving the camera through different key points, each of which has its own adjustable settings tied to Photo Mode features. Users also have the ability to save, reset, and adjust the playback duration of cutscenes they have created. In short, you will be able to take tracking shots in your cities and think of yourself as a budding Francis Ford Coppola. You can get a glimpse of it all in the video below:

A titanic game

It must be recognized that the game particularly shines aesthetically. However, beyond the attractive graphics, Cities Skylines 2 also promises engaging gameplay. Over the weeks, we discovered how hard the developers worked to integrate all the mechanics favored by the community. For the moment, we note the absence of content derived from the Parklife DLC and the ease of modifying the location and orientation of constructions, like what the Move It mod allows. But that’s all.

Despite these shortcomings, the results are largely positive. Most of the content from Natural Disasters, focused on natural disasters, will be integrated, as will winter management from Snowfall. The game also emphasizes in-depth economic management and features significantly more realistic car traffic. At this stage, it seems that the game has all the assets to make an impression. The release is scheduled for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series on October 24. Obviously, we can’t wait.
