67% of leaders are campaigning for ever more embedded technology in business. “And it is not the GenAI phenomenon that will reverse the trend,” comments Jean-Luc Couasnon, Senior Executive Partner at Gartner, at the opening of the IMA Low Code No Code conference.
This wish is also shared within the professions, he continues. To participate in this movement, Citizen Developers (or Business Technologists) are key. 73% of non-IT managers advocate an increase in these profiles.
Controlled autonomy for professions
“The real question is that of the tools that we put in their hands and which do not endanger the IS”, considers Jean-Luc Couasnon. The aim is not to encourage the growth of shadow IT. And this involves the creation of foundations, “a common good”, and even the adoption of new ways of working.
This approach is the product mode. Gartner recommends, “for certain needs”, the implementation of a “fusion mode” combining IT, Data, business and AI at the level of transversal processes and solutions (CRM, ERP, etc.).
“We must above all not oppose low code, no code and pro code” and favor complementarity within the framework of an adapted distribution of roles. “Is a low-code application deployed to 80% of employees intended to be maintained by a business developer or, on the contrary, should it be entrusted to the IT department?”
A balance to be ensured between all
For the Senior Executive Partner, a “balance must be maintained” and low code/no code (LCNC) must stop being associated with low-end applications and shadow IT. “The culture is changing, even if there has been historical resistance.”
Other uses of LCNC solutions have been added to forms and “applets”. “Business Technologists also want to use low code to clean the data.” The market is therefore growing.
Gartner estimates the platform market at $9.4 billion. By 2027, its size will have practically doubled at an average annual growth rate of 20%. “It’s more than the growth of the cloud.”
Overall (RPA, iPaaS, etc.), LCNC represents a market worth $44.5 billion worldwide. France would account for around 3% of this bull market, suggests the Gartner executive. Low code no code is seen by 59% as a lever for modernizing and augmenting existing applications.
Banks now at the forefront of low code no code
For 71%, these tools target back & front-office applications and 59% software aimed at supporting internal processes. Given these uses, the user population is diversifying to include both professions and pro-code developers.
At the sectoral level, “even if they did not start first”, bankers and insurers are positioned at the forefront in terms of uses, like public sector players. Over the past 2 years, large companies have accelerated their adoption.
Jean-Luc Couasnon urges organizations to approach the subject of low code no code, ideally in fusion mode, through everyday use cases or disruptions. But be careful to define and respect guiding principles, particularly in terms of data quality and security.
