CitraVR: is this 3DS emulator on Meta Quest on borrowed time?

Last week, a wind of litigation blew between Nintendo of America And Tropical Hazethe company behind the Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu. The courts were taken to court, and after intense negotiations, the two parties finally reached an amicable agreement. Under the terms of this agreement, Tropical Haze undertakes to pay the sum of $2.4 million to Nintendo and to cease all development activities related to Yuzu.

This legal case is not limited to Yuzu alone. It also affects Citraa ten year old 3DS emulator. As announced by Bunneithe developer of Yuzu and Citra, in a post on DiscordCitra has also been withdrawn from circulation. But the end of the latter raises an additional question: what will be the fate of CitraVR which is a separate project, initiated by Amanda Watson, developer in the field of virtual reality (the Meta Quest LINK is her baby). Although this project is not directly related to Yuzuits code is undoubtedly based on that of Citra.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding CitraVR’s future, one thing seems clear: its impact may be less than that of Citra. Indeed, installing the emulator on Meta Quest requires switching the headset to developer mode and mastering the Sideloading. Although unlikely, it is worth noting that Watson could also decide to retire CitraVR Traffic. For the moment, no information has been communicated regarding the continuation or abandonment of the project.

Despite these legal twists and turns, Meta Quest emulation enthusiasts can still, at least for the moment, access the emulator CitraVR on the GitHub platform here.
