Citroën announces that its future electric cars will be (almost) as affordable as Dacias

It is by having Dacia in its sights that Citroën plans to boost its sales thanks to its next electric model, a low-cost electric car.

We are constantly talking about the next Tesla at 25,000 euros. But if one of our national manufacturers could already start making such a competitive vehicle, we would be very happy. It is true that looking at the car catalogs currently offered, the range of low-cost electric models is not really extensive.

At Renault, the Mégane E-Tech starts excluding bonuses at 38,000 euros, while the Peugeot e-308 is squarely above at 43,900 euros. So yes, there are many smaller vehicles, but the Renault Zoe and Peugeot e-208 cost 35,100 euros and 34,800 euros respectively. Not given!

Let’s not be so disingenuous, the electric Renault Twingo starts at 25,250 euros. And then otherwise, to stay in the Renault galaxy, there is the Dacia Spring, barely above 20,000 euros (20,800 euros), whose sales are booming.

Is the low-cost electricity supply limited? Yes. Is there room for another national player? Of course. And Citroën intends to rush into this breach to restore color to its Chevrons.

Getting closer to Dacia…

For the moment, Citroën’s electric offer is not the most competitive, with an entry into the electric range with the C4 at more than 35,000 euros. A shame for a manufacturer which offers the AMI quadricycle whose sales are really booming, but do not enter into the statistics. Quadricycle obliges.

But as reported by our colleagues from Parisian, it is with a car at a competitive price that Citroën intends to regain its health. More precisely a car for less than 25,000 euros. Because it is from this psychological border that the market fails with its lack of supply. But who says low price does not necessarily mean “low cost”. Moreover, for several years Citroën has been defending the concept of an “essential” car, which is ultimately not that far away.

But whether it likes it or not, the manufacturer is getting closer in terms of price to Dacia, of which it has always denied being a competitor. It must be said that Dacia has significantly increased its prices in a few years. As reported by the magazine Challengesthe price gap between the two brands would be 13%, while it was 25% four years ago.

…and deprive Tesla of priority!

And then the idea, in addition to the competitive price, would be to be the first or almost the first to position itself in a niche which will undoubtedly progress in the years to come. Even if it means denying priority to big players who have been making headlines for some time now. We are obviously talking about Tesla, of which we know that Elon Musk is actively working on a $25,000 car, the one that we already nickname the Tesla Model 2. We can also mention the future electric Renault R5 and Volkswagen ID.2.

By being the first to arrive on the car market for less than 25,000 euros, and probably even less once the ecological bonus and the scrappage bonus are deducted, Citroën could indeed gain a head start on the segment. of the versatile electric city car (B segment). And the good news is that this inexpensive electric Citroën will arrive here very quickly since it will be presented in a month. October 17 more precisely.

The Citroën ëC3 in the starting blocks

But then what awaits us in a month? It will be the new ëC3, therefore the equivalent of a Citroën C3 but this time 100% electric. Barely more expensive than the Dacia Spring, it will also be much more spacious with a length of 4 meters (3.75 meters for the Spring).

We don’t yet know much about this newcomer, except that it will be produced in the same Trnava factory as the Peugeot e-208, in Slovakia. Production in Europe and development which took place internationally, because the model will use the same platform as certain truly low cost them, like the Indian electric C3.

See you on October 17 to discover the one that could quickly find a place in the top of the best-selling electric cars in France!
