The critical test report surrounding a financial construct in Graz now has consequences. Political responsibility should be clarified in a special committee.
As reported, the City Audit Office took a very critical look at Graz’s finances. In the sights: the Unternehmensfinanz-GmbH – GUF for short. It was intended to summarize all of the city’s income. According to the audit report, the city circumvented budgetary regulations that had been in effect for years, there were insufficient internal controls, and the municipal council and the municipal assembly were not informed. This is causing anger for the opposition parties, who are now calling a special meeting of the control committee (on December 19th). “The members of the control committee must now be made aware of areas blacked out in the test report as quickly as possible,” explains chairman Philipp Pointner (Neos). At the same time, work must begin to come to terms with the “terrifyingly non-transparent events in the GUF” and political responsibility must be clarified.
