CL semi-final: second leg – Joselu shoots Real into the CL final with a late brace – Sport

  • Real Madrid turned the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at home against Bayern Munich from 0-1 to 2-1 and followed BVB into the CL final.
  • After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, Alphonso Davies’s opening goal in the 68th minute brings Bayern close to reaching the final.
  • Joselu’s brace in the 88th and 91st minutes makes it 2-1 for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid ran in vain for 87 minutes and was on the verge of elimination in the semi-finals. What then followed was another incredible comeback by the “Royal” in the “premier class”. First, Joselu benefited from a mistake by Manuel Neuer, who was unable to adequately fend off a touchdown by Vinicius Junior. With that, the Bernabeu woke up and frenetically whipped the home team forward.

Driven by the Madrid cauldron, Real continued to run. Bayern swam and Real got another corner at the start of stoppage time. The ball came via a detour to the left to Antonio Rüdiger, who delivered a sharp cross to the middle, where Joselu was again in the right position and pushed the ball over the line. After a VAR check for a possible offside, the Bernabeu finally became a madhouse.

After the double strike, Real withdrew without Bayern having any great chances to score. There was still enough excitement for Bayern when the linesman whistled for Bayern to be offside very early on. After 105 minutes played, the game was over and all the dams broke in Madrid.

Real started energetically

Real took the reins with kick-off. In the 6th minute the hosts came close to taking the lead for the first time. Daniel Carvajal’s low cross was a bit too wide and Rodrygo slipped just past the ball. Just 2 minutes later, Bayern had a very similar opportunity on the other side: Serge Gnabry looked for Harry Kane, but his ball was neither a shot nor a pass.

12 minutes had been played when Vinicius shot the ball at the far post. From there he jumped back into the feet of Rodrygo, who couldn’t get the ball past Neuer. As a result, top chances were rather rare. In the 27th minute, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel was forced to make his first substitution, with Gnabry having to make way for Alphonso Davies.

Shortly before the break, Manuel Neuer had to prove his class again. He was able to deflect a tricky shot from Vinicius from the corner of the penalty area around the post.

Davie’s opening goal is worth seeing

Bayern started the second half better, but quickly gave control of the game back to the hosts. But Real despaired again and again because of Neuer in the Bayern goal. Around the hour mark he made a strong save from a free kick from Rodrygo and again from Vinicius.

In the 68th minute, the guests had space to counterattack: Kane put Davies in the spotlight with a wonderful diagonal ball. He stood his ground on the side, moved to the middle and heaved the play equipment into the far corner with his weaker right foot. The new edition of the German final at Wembley seemed within reach. Until Real Madrid started their next crazy comeback.

This is how it continues
