Since the announcement of his death, following cancer, this Wednesday, March 2, Jean-Pierre Pernaut has received a shower of tributes and messages of gratitude for having been an endearing man and a professional. His wife Nathalie Marquay and her daughter Lou were the first to share their grief but also the love they had for their husband and father.

But it is also the profession that mourns the presenter of the 1 p.m. of TF1. Among the tributes we find that of Claire Chazal. Asked live on the BFM TV channel, she shared her emotion at knowing the disappearance of her dear colleague. She spoke of “his shock and his great sadness” on the news channel continuously.

“I didn’t know he was even sicker today. I know he had overcome cancer but I did not know there had been a recurrence”, said Claire Chazal. Although she knew that he had fought against prostate cancer in 2018, she did not know the seriousness of this new lung cancer mentioned in November 2021.

The journalist who attended Jean-Pierre Pernaut for 25 years when she was also at the head of the JT of TF1 was very touched by his disappearance. Claire Chazal had gotten used to seeing him daily with his legendary good humor.

The loss of a colleague and an excellent journalist

Claire Chazal took the opportunity to talk about the man who was Jean-Pierre Pernaut within the editorial staff of TF1. He was a committed man, who was not afraid to defend his ideas and his job.

“He was a warm personality who had sincere outbursts and anger. Sometimes his expression exceeded his thoughts but the journalists did not blame him because he knew him”, recalled Claire Chazal.

The former JT presenter also recalled why Jean-Pierre Pernaut has a special place in the history of TF1 but also French information.

“He was sincere. (…) This longevity of the faces of information, that of Patrick Poivre d’Arvor, Jean-Pierre and mine too, is what constituted the strength of this writing and the attachment that people carried us” estimated Claire Chazal
