New job for “The Crown” star Claire Foy: She will play Facebook co-boss Sheryl Sandberg in a new series.

From the queen to the Facebook boss: “The Crown” star Claire Foy (37) will embody Sheryl Sandberg (52), the co-managing director of Facebook, in a new series. This is reported, among other things, by the industry portal “Variety”. The drama is based on the “New York Times” bestseller “Inside Facebook: The Ugly Truth” by investigative journalists Sheera Frenkel and Cecilia Klang. The adapted series by Ayad Akhtar (50) is entitled “Doomsday Machine”.

The series is developed by the film production companies Anonymous Content (“Dead Girls Don’t Lie”) and wiip. Among other things, it is about Sheryl Sandberg’s relationship with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (37) and sheds light on the obstacles Facebook encountered in its pursuit of growth. The plot begins with the 2016 US presidential election and continues to this day. Topics are also Donald Trump (75), fake news and the mental health risks of Instagram on young people.

Several journalists are available as advisors to ensure the truth of the drama. It is not yet known who will play Mark Zuckerberg. Most recently, the Facebook boss was played by Jesse Eisenberg (38) in “The Social Network” (2010). For this role he was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
