“Injury confirmed”: BVB transfer in jeopardy

Serhou Guirassy’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund is actually already a done deal. However, the medical check revealed an “injury that requires further clarification”. According to reports, the 28-year-old has already activated his release clause at VfB Stuttgart.

Serhou Guirassy’s planned transfer within the Bundesliga from VfB Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund has been delayed due to problems with the medical check. “During a medical examination of Serhou Guirassy, an injury was discovered that requires further clarification,” BVB announced. The transfer of the 28-year-old was actually only a formality, according to media reports both sides have already agreed on a four-year contract that only needs to be signed.

As the “Bild” newspaper reports, an old injury of Guirassy’s has not fully healed. The striker sustained the injury while playing for the Guinea national team. That is why BVB now wants to get a second opinion from a specialist. The transfer will only be possible after a second medical check. Several media outlets have already reported that Guirassy has activated the release clause in his contract in Stuttgart, which is said to be worth 18 million euros.

At BVB, Guirassy, who scored 28 goals last season, would compete with German international striker Niclas Füllkrug. The European Championship participant was a regular in Dortmund’s attack last season. He scored twelve Bundesliga goals and provided eight assists, and scored two substitute goals at the European Championship.

Performance diagnostics at BVB: Süle makes an impression

Despite the stalled transfer, Borussia’s professionals started their preseason preparations today, Wednesday. Nuri Şahin, successor to Edin Terzić, welcomed 15 footballers to the BVB training center for the obligatory performance diagnostics. The European Championship players and US international Giovanni Reyna, who will play at the Copa América, will only join them later in the preparations. At the same time, the Dutch national team completed its warm-up session on the BVB grounds, behind closed doors, ahead of the European Championship semi-final against England in the evening.

Former international player Niklas Süle was the first professional to arrive at the training center early in the morning. The center-back had barely played for the Champions League finalists at the end of the last season due to obvious fitness problems. BVB itself published a picture of the 28-year-old in a much better physical condition.

On Thursday, BVB will have its first training session on the pitch. In nine days, the then decimated BVB squad will travel to Thailand and Japan for a week for the Bundesliga’s international marketing campaign. Sahin’s squad will then play test matches in Bangkok and Osaka. The training camp will take place from August 1 to 9 in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. The national team players will also be there then.
