WASHNGTON, Jan 10 (Reuters) – “Classified” documents from when Joe Biden was U.S. vice president were found by the U.S. president’s personal lawyers last November at the premises of a circle of thinking in Washington, a White House lawyer said Monday.
Nearly ten documents were found in Joe Biden’s office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, CBS News reported earlier today.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland had requested that the documents be reviewed by Chicago prosecutors before they were released to the National Records Service, CBS News reported.
The “classified” documents were identified by Joe Biden’s personal lawyers on November 2, days before the midterms elections, Richard Sauber, the president’s special adviser, said in a statement on Monday.
Joe Biden had used these offices regularly from mid-2017 to the start of his 2020 presidential campaign.
The White House legal counsel’s office notified the National Archives Service the same day of the discovery of the documents, Richard Sauber said. The agency took possession of it the next morning, he added.
Neither the US Department of Justice, the National Archives Service or the think tank immediately responded to a request for comment.
Joe Biden served as Barack Obama’s vice president from 2009 to 2017.
