Claudia Schiffer: Her husband only became a director because of her

Matthew Vaughn (52) reveals that he would probably never have become a director without his wife Claudia Schiffer (53). In an interview he describes how the model persuaded him to do it.

From producer to director

The filmmaker had previously worked as a producer. In 2004 he made his directorial debut with the crime film “Layer Cake”. On the BBC’s “The One Show”, he revealed how it came about: “My wife persuaded me to become a director.” When director Guy Ritchie (55) left the film, she encouraged him to take on this role on “Layer Cake”. He probably liked the job because he has since directed six more films.

Matthew Vaughn and Claudia Schiffer have been married since 2002 and have three children. His family is obviously very important to his job. Because Vaughn also revealed that his new work “Argylle” is influenced by family. The film celebrates women – and he has his daughters to thank for that. “We were watching ‘Chasing the Green Diamond’ during lockdown and the world had become quite bleak.” One of his daughters then asked him: “Why can’t you make a film like that?” Women are celebrated in the film. And since he had daughters, he wanted “women to be safe and celebrated.”

Thriller “Argylle” opens on February 2nd

He came to “The One Show” with actor John Cena (46) to promote “Argylle”. The film, which will be released in cinemas on February 2nd, has a star-studded cast. For example, Henry Cavill (40), Samuel L. Jackson (75) and Dua Lipa (28) are also there. It’s about introverted spy novelist Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), who is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plot of her books gets too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate.
