“Simply Clean” method
Keep your home clean with just 10 minutes of work a day
You clean all the time – and yet your apartment is somehow never really neat and clean? Then the “Simply Clean” method might be your salvation!
When it comes to cleaning, most people follow one of two strategies: either they clean the entire apartment once a week or every 14 days and do little things at most in the time in between – or they do a few smaller cleaning and tidying tasks every day and save so the big sweep.
According to US cleaning expert and blogger Becky Rapinchuk, the latter is definitely a better tactic. She has developed a special concept that “Simply Clean” methodwhich is based precisely on this strategy.
Simply Clean: This is how you keep your home permanently clean with minimal effort
As a working mother of three, Becky Rapinchuk found it difficult to keep her house tidy and clean at all times. This gave her the idea for her “Simply Clean” technique. Basically, it’s about achieving the best possible result with minimal effort: ideally, a permanently presentable apartment. The idea is to invest ten to a maximum of 15 minutes in housework every day and not have to do a major cleaning once a week. At the same time, all rooms are consistently clean and tidy.
The “Simply Clean” method classifies various household tasks into one of these three categories.
- Things you should do daily: This includes making your bed, tidying up your clothes, wiping down worktops and tables, cleaning floors and doing laundry (depending on the amount of laundry in your household).
- Things to do once a week: cleaning the bathroom, dusting, vacuuming thoroughly and mopping floors, changing and washing sheets and towels. Many of these tasks also depend on your life situation. For example, if you have pets, you might want to vacuum and mop your floors more often. If there are many people in your household, it is more hygienic to clean the bathroom and especially the toilet more often.
- Things to do once a month or even just once a quarter: Of course, the optimal frequency here also depends on your life situation, for example whether you live alone, with a partner, in a flat share, with children and/or pets. These types of tasks include: cleaning furniture, cleaning the oven, washing windows and wiping baseboards.
You work according to this method with a weekly plan and complete at least one task every day in addition to the daily to-dos, which should take ten to 15 minutes to complete. Your plan could look like this:
- Monday: dust off
- Tuesday: vacuuming
- Wednesday: Mop floors with a damp cloth
- Thursday: Change bed linen and towels
- Friday: washing clothes
- Saturday: cleaning the bathroom
- Sunday: cleaning break
Then, over the next week, prioritize other tasks so that you do a little cleaning and tidying up each day.
Can it really all be done in just 10 minutes?
Whether you can really complete each of the tasks within a maximum of 15 minutes also depends on the size of your apartment and your household. Vacuuming, for example, logically takes longer on 200 square meters than on 50. And it may not be possible to clean a bathroom thoroughly in such a short time. On the other hand, other tasks may go faster, so that you get an average of ten to 15 minutes of work per day.
In her book, Simply Clean: The Proven 10-Minute Way to a Clean, Organized, and Beautiful Home, Becky explains it all in detail, offering detailed cleaning schedules, schedules, and additional tips.
