5 things we clean wrong in the household
Cleaning is easy, isn’t it? Not quite! Because a lot can go wrong with both the cleaning agents and the cleaning utensils. We tell you the five most common mistakes we make when cleaning our home.
Once you have found your routine, cleaning happens almost mechanically. Without thinking much about the process, they vacuum, wipe and scrub. Many people are not aware that a few mistakes can quickly creep in – even though the effects on our home can be devastating. We should avoid these five mistakes in the future.
1. Clean marble with water or detergent
Marble is a living trend that has been firmly established on the interior market for many years. No matter whether as a table, bedside table or just as decoration, the popular Italian stone is good in many areas and can be integrated into your own home as an eye-catcher. But care should be taken when cleaning the marble, because the stone tolerates neither water nor aggressive cleaning agents. Both lead to the surface of the marble being attacked. The result: unsightly stains that eat into the surface.
To prevent this, marble should only be cleaned dry with a suitable microfiber cloth, a broom or a vacuum cleaner. However, if stubborn dirt has to be removed from the marble, in exceptional cases too little water and mild cleaning agents can be used.
2. Just rinse rags and sponges instead of washing them properly
A mistake that often creeps into the cleaning routine out of laziness is that sponges and cloths end up on the edge of the sink after a short rinse. But exactly this procedure offers bacteria and germs the perfect breeding ground for multiplication. So the cleaning utensil quickly changes from a cleaner to a bacteria slingshot.
It would be better to just throw the reusable sponges and cloths in the washing machine. So you can be absolutely sure the next time you clean that the cleaning utensils are really ready for use and clean.
3. Clean glass, mirrors and high-gloss fronts with microfiber
Microfiber cloths are our friend and helper when things have to be done quickly around the house. But not every microfiber cloth is suitable for every surface! Conventional microfiber cloths are particularly reluctant to get along with mirrors, glass and high-gloss fronts. The surface of the cloth causes small micro-scratches – after a long time, mirrors and glass surfaces become dull and the kitchen fronts become unattractively matt.
But don’t panic, we won’t have to do without our little helpers in the future either. Instead of reaching for a conventional microfiber cloth, we only have to replace it with a very specific one – namely a glass microfiber cloth, also known as a mirror microfiber cloth. Due to its fresh bone structure, it leaves neither streaks nor micro-scratches when cleaning – so the fronts, glass panes and mirrors remain radiantly beautiful even after several years.
4. Too hot water
If you like to use hot water to clean your wooden floor, you should prick up your ears now. Because the high water temperature can damage the soil in the long term and cause it to swell. If you then use an alcohol-based cleaner, the chaos is complete. Because this cannot fully develop its cleaning power in combination with the hot water. This wipes the floor, but does not completely remove the dirt. It is therefore worth taking a closer look at your domestic cleaning products.
5. Disregard the exposure time
Spray on cleaning agent, wait a moment, wipe off and that’s it – that’s what it used to look like when we cleaned our home. But here, too, an error creeps in unknowingly. Because some cleaning agents need a certain exposure time to develop their power. It is therefore worth taking a look at the description before applying the product and adhering to the recommended time.
