The wooden floor loses its luster over time. To ensure that this does not happen, you have to consider a few things for the right parquet care.
Cleaning parquet: The best cleaning tips
- The Vacuum cleaner can be used when cleaning parquet floors and should be the first step. A brush attachment is recommended so that the wood does not get scratches on the surface. There are special vacuum cleaner nozzles – Parquet nozzles. But also the universal nozzle, which is included with every vacuum cleaner, can help. You can write them out with a switch. And the floor is not only clean, but also remains scratch-free. In general, however, a floor wiper (cotton mop) here the better choice.
- This is followed by wiping. Mopping too damp is harmful to the parquet floor, because it could cause the floor to swell. Therefore, you should make sure that only one damp cotton cloth is used, which means that it has been wrung out and is no longer dripping.

- Especially small stones and the dirt from our shoes that we carry into the apartment are to blame for the scratches in the parquet, so daily care is important. The wooden floors should at best wiped dry daily and wiped with a damp cloth once a week.
Tip: You should stay away from microfiber cloths, as they scratch the floor. Scouring milk and steel wool are also taboo for cleaning the parquet.
Cleaning sealed parquet: The best tips
Sealed parquet is particularly popular among parquet floors because the special protective layer keeps dust and moisture away. At stubborn dirt you can use a mixture of water and sal ammoniac use. But also spirit or turpentine help against stains. Once the coarsest dirt has been removed, the wooden floor should also be treated with care products in order to preserve it for as long as possible. The parquet gets an additional protective layer with Polish, a varnish care product.
Cleaning oiled parquet: You have to pay attention to this
Oiled parquet is comparatively not that easy to care for. Regular waxing and polishing is a must for oiled or unsealed parquet. The reason for this is, on the one hand, that there is no seal compared to sealed parquet that protects against dirt and moisture, and on the other hand, the wooden floor retains its shine through waxing. Microfiber cloths should never be used for wiping, but rather one Cotton mop cover. For stains you should special parquet cleaner pick up. If the parquet is new, it needs to be treated with an appropriate care oil. You should ask your retailer which one is the right one. After the initial care, re-oiling is recommended after three years at the latest.
When to sand down the parquet?
There is no general answer to this. The guideline is: sand down the parquet every ten to fifteen years. Depending on how much or how little it was used, this period can also be shorter or longer. You should clarify in advance whether your wooden floor is suitable at all, because not every parquet is suitable for this, while others can be sanded down several times.
