Cleaning the oven: 9 additional tips

The 'Hausgeräte +' initiative has other useful tips for simple oven cleaning:

  1. Avoid contamination: The use of Baking paper prevents greasy and burnt-on residues from remaining on the baking sheet. For roasts or casseroles, the roaster or baking dish should be large enough. So that nothing overflows when heated, it is best to use molds with a high rim and not fill them to the brim.
  2. Remove dirt immediately: Wipe off light dirt immediately after baking.
  3. Soak incrustations: If you have a combination oven with an integrated steam system, you can first soak stubborn dirt by adding steam. This is then easier to remove and remove from the surface.
  4. Clean elements individually: Individual elements, such as shelf racks or pull-out shelves, can be removed from many models and cleaned separately. This also applies to most oven doors. The glass panes can generally be removed using clamping levers without special tools.
  5. Clean rubber seals: The door's rubber seals should also be cleaned regularly with warm water and neutral soap. The door closes really tight and heat and energy losses can be prevented.

  6. Use enamel or ceramic: Baking dishes with an enamelled surface or ceramic surface are particularly smooth, so that hardly anything sticks.

  7. Oven with coating: A catalytic coating of the inner walls of the oven is also practical. Here, special catalyst particles are embedded in the coating, which decompose greasy dirt during operation from around 200 degrees Celsius. Important: Under no circumstances should the coating be treated with scouring milk, firm brushes and sponges or steel wool, otherwise the surface will be damaged and the special cleaning properties will be lost.

  8. Pyrolysis in the oven: Ovens with a pyrolysis function are particularly convenient: With this self-cleaning process, the empty interior of the oven heats up to 500 degrees Celsius. All impurities are carbonized at these high temperatures. What remains is ash, which you can simply wipe off with a damp cloth after cooling. Depending on the degree of soiling and the cleaning level set, the application takes one to three hours.

  9. Oven cleaner use: If you do not have an oven with self-cleaning and do not want to use household remedies, you can remove more residue with oven cleaner.
