clear slowdown in inflation in November (+2.5% year-on-year excluding fresh products)

Inflation in Japan decelerated sharply in November, to 2.5% year-on-year excluding fresh products, compared to 2.9% the previous month, thanks in particular to a decline in gas and electricity prices, according to data. official published Friday.

This is the lowest for this index since July 2022.

Such a slowdown had been anticipated by the consensus of economists from the Bloomberg agency. And this is in line with the Bank of Japan (BoJ), which expects that the rise in consumer prices will now weaken regularly in the archipelago.

The BoJ maintained its ultra-accommodating monetary policy on Tuesday, continuing to believe that its objective of stable 2% inflation is not yet in sight for the moment.

Because the rise in prices in Japan is essentially driven by imported costs and not by domestic demand, failing to be accompanied by sufficiently robust growth in the economy and wages for the moment.

Also excluding energy in addition to fresh produce, inflation slowed to 3.8% in November from 4% in October, the lowest since March of this year.
