A few weeks ago, Helldiverse 2 went through a debacle linked to Sony’s commercial policy. The game was the victim of review bombing. The developers have transformed this bad situation into a cosmetic item.
Life is not a long, quiet river for Helldiverse 2, despite a fairly resounding success since its launch in February on PC and PlayStation 5. Sony even almost ruined everything in May, when the publisher imposed the creation of a PlayStation Network account for users Steam. A condition which has excluded several countries from the distribution circuit.
This decision constituted the starting point of a debacle, notably materialized by review bombing – the practice of rating a game negatively to lower its average. In May, Helldiverse 2 received more than 330,000 negative reviews on Steam in three days, which gave a fairly disastrous curve on the Valve platform. But, now that the situation is resolved and forgotten, the developers have decided to make it a symbol, coupled with content for fans.

One of the fiascos of Helldiverse 2 will become a cape for the community
On the page of a game available on Steam, the evaluation section displays a graph which shows the number of evaluations — negative as well as positive — received. Negative ones feed into a red rectangle that points downward, while positive ones take the shape of a blue rectangle that points upward. When Helldiverse 2 underwent its review bombing, the graphic displayed three red rectangles of a different size (in ascending order), giving an unintentionally successful symbol that the developers were keen to make their own.
Concretely, Helldiverse 2 will soon offer a somewhat special cape, which players can wear during their games. It sports a logo showing the three red rectangles, as they were displayed on Steam at the time of the fiasco. Creative director of the game, Johan Pilestedt shared a first teaser on May 11.
It’s been more than a month since this story ended, and there is still no trace of this famous cape. Is it still planned? Yes, recalled Johan Pilestedt in a tweet published on June 14: “ The work is finished on our side, but we are waiting for the right moment to make it available. »
An Internet user suggested that he wait until the moment Helldiverse 2 will be available again in several countries. In any case, it is a great communication operation for the studio, which transforms a difficult moment into a symbol of glory that the community can proudly brandish.
