France wants to reduce the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix from currently more than 60 percent to 40 percent by 2035 – and is also relying on nuclear energy to achieve this.

France wants to rely on a newer reactor model, as Energy Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher explains. This should offer more performance with greater security.

According to the state energy company EDF, the first such reactor is scheduled to go online in Flamanville in Normandy in the middle of the year – initially for test purposes and after 17 years of construction.
