Climate: The year 2022 is the hottest ever recorded in France!

PARIS, November 30 (Reuters) – The year 2022 will be the hottest ever measured in France since records began in 1900, regardless of the temperatures that will be recorded in December, Météo France announced on Wednesday.

The average annual temperature in France will exceed 14.2 degrees Celsius this year, making 2022 the number one hottest year, ahead of 2020, which held the record with 14.07 degrees, Météo France said.

“The year 2022 was punctuated by numerous episodes and waves of heat and mildness. Conversely, periods of cold were almost absent, with the exception of a late frost episode in early April. All months of the year were warmer than normal, with the exception of January and April,” reads a statement from the institute.

Météo France specifies that the drought of the soil was long and extended while several heat waves fell on France, sometimes outside the hot season, causing storms and forest fires.

Thirty-three days of heat waves were counted this summer, unheard of.

“The remarkable summer episodes of 2022 would have been highly improbable and much less intense without the effect of climate change”, is it underlined in the press release from Météo France, which warns that this year could be considered “normal” in 2050.
